William Moennig and his son, William H. Jr., made violins in Philadelphia. The father was born in Germany in 1883 and opened “Ye Olde Fiddle Shop” in Philadelphia in 1909. This violin was imported by them for resale. It would have been a more affordable violin, compared to their own hand-made violins they sold. This is a very fine looking Guarneri copy. It has a one piece back and a very good, golden brown varnish.
The violin is in excellent condition. It has a corner repair and some short
f-hole crack repairs. The varnish has the usual slight chips, etc. It is set up with D’Addario Zyex strings.
